Lasius are different types of earth ants and this fly mimics black earth ants (Lasius Niger) which often swarm throughout late summer.

A very important fly during the period July-September in Scandinavia, somewhat depending on altitude and how far up in the country you live. The pattern can also be fished as a common ant fly throughout the season with good results. But when the summer holidays are over, you should have it in the box and get out on those days with high humidity and a little wind. A little sunshine on an otherwise a little cool and windless day is also not to be despised. The autumn swarms of ants usually come in the afternoon from 2-3 o'clock and later. there is some movement so look for places where insects can gather, windbreaks and where it blows on land.
